HOMEWORK A personal Home Reading Log will be a required daily assignment. Reading Logs must be initialed by a parent/guardian. All students are expected to read for at least 10 minutes each night. The book must be a "just right book", that students can read independently. Students must be reading, not being read to. If parents / siblings would like to be involved, you may listen to your child read and ask questions to make sure he/she understands what is read. Do not be alarmed if your child continues to bring home the same book for a few days – continued rereading will help build your child’s fluency. Independent reading allows students to experience reading for pleasure as well as build knowledge, vocabulary and fluency.
Students will receive a homework chart every Monday, which outlines the homework for the week, (Spelling, Homework Binder, IXL, Projects) as well as the weekly spelling list and a quick note from me about the lessons for the week. The students will place that chart in their homework folder. Check to make sure that your child completes the homework listed for that day. Homework is very important in reinforcing the day’s lessons!!
Here are some tips on how to help your child with homework:
Help your child establish a homework time everyday. Provide a quiet, well-lit place where there will be little interruption.
Most importantly…Encourage your child to do their best work and put forth their best effort.
